Movie info: Born and raised in the dutch dunes of Scheveningen, The Hague, Julian Yoshi van Vliet found his passion in building the most important thing that one needs to ride the energy of waves: surfboards. Combining his interest and specialism in Industrial Ecology he started to shape a future of sustainability;

A short film shot entirely in 4K, this video portrait follows a young Dutchmen who is craftsman, an environ-mentalist, an artist, an inventor and a surf nut all rolled into one. Each of these characteristics push and pull at him, sometimes they work together and sometimes they are at odds. They are his momentum and his breaks.

He did what so many people dream of doing, he turned his hobby into a job and it took over his life. It consumes him with every board he shapes and every wave he surfs; the unending curiosity to create something new, the perfect sustainable board – that doesn’t exist. It sucks him in like a black hole - mysterious, beautiful, scary and enticing.

What happens when what you love determines how you make a living, when it goes from being a passion to a responsibility, a burden and an obligation? While Julian is increasingly pressurised into different directions, he won’t be distracted from his lifelong passion and goal; creating a true sustainable surfboard and enjoying waves with his friends.
