Surf Scars with Mason Ho | Search Stories | Live #TheSearch | Rip Curl Mason Ho's worst wipeout: "I just remember I was like, oh no the rocks!" There aren't too many people into slab surfing more than Mason Ho. The guy charges rock shelfs, shallow reefs and heaving pits harder than just about anyone on the planet. That commitment comes with a cost. Split head. Near concussion. Staples. Here's one of Mason's craziest ever wipeouts in Hawaii. "I just remember I took off on this wave and it looked like the most perfect wave ever. When I took off, I remember I was like, oh no the rocks! My board was going in and I remember I was 100% gonna hit like my face on the rocks. My momentum was shooting to that when I was like, I don't want to hit my teeth and my mouth and my face. I'd rather hit the back of my head. So the last minute I just turn. I figured is the fastest thing. I just turn my head and the reef hit perfectly, a pinnacle hit, like directly in the back of my head. I still have the scar... when I came up it was like everything was a little pink. Nice. And I was like whoa, pink. Like I was like this is cool, but this ain't good." Lazer Breathing Dragons | Stephanie Gilmore, Mason Ho & Tom Curren on #TheSearch | Rip Curl 8x World Champ Stephanie Gilmore has just completed her first trip on The Search since gracefully moonwalking away from the Championship Tour. Along with style icon Tom Curren and tube maestro Mason Ho, Steph embarked on The Search to explore a new pace for her surfing. Lazer Breathing Dragons is the result of that trip - a barrel full of laughs and a barrel full of barrels. “All my life I’ve surfed with primarily one major purpose. To go fast with fierceness and style. That was my purpose,” says Steph about her approach to her career. “I don’t know what is next for me. I don’t know what is next for my surfing. But I’m very excited about it. That is my Search.” Lazer Breathing Dragons takes cues from the wild fun of the 1980s – a decade when both Steph and Mason were born, and when Curren won his first two world titles. Rather than exploring brand new places, it’s about exploring a different mindset to competition and always pushing the limits of performance.
