From waves and sidewalks to mountain slopes and dunes, using a board to shred has reached all types of terrain. Forever pushing further, boards have also been adapted with kites, electric and even chairs.

But incredibly, until recently, ice is one surface that has mostly escaped attention.

Hoping to change all that, the guys at Xtreme Ice Blades are introducing a way to adapt your board by attaching blades to your trucks instead of wheels. No special boards or shoes required. Just one crucial ingredient needed - ICE!

Made of lightweight aircraft aluminium, if you've got a rink (or frozen pond) nearby, these look like a beasty way to expand your ride experience.

Created by John Lane, Xtreme blades were the ultimate answer to tempt his skateboarding boys to the ice rink for family time. Watching the guys ripping around the rink, it seems this was a serious master stroke.

Now wanting to take their innovative invention a step further, John and the Xtreme team wish to show its potential to the wider skate world.

They plan to document this new branch of ride as it evolves, so are creating a film - From Street to Ice - that will also encourage more riders to try it out.

Hoping to get things moving via Kickstarter crowdfunding, you can support their dream and pick up some ice blades and other perks when you pledge.
