Already with the mark of having his name registered in the Guinness World Records with three world records, the young prodigy <strong>Gui Khury</strong> was one of the highlights of this Sunday (06/08) in the sport. In the opening stage of the Vert Battle 2023, the Brazilian Circuit of Vertical Skateboarding, he gave a new show at the recently opened Half Pipe track of the Tietê Sports Center, in the North Zone of São Paulo, and was crowned champion.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Exactly two weeks ago, this skater from Curitiba (PR) was a gold medalist at the X-Games in California (USA), with the best maneuver in the Vert, leading even the announcers of the event to madness. Now, he has made a point of showing everything he knows also in Brazilian lands. On the third of the four 30-second laps to which each is entitled, he abused. In addition to a 720-degree maneuver and a few flips, it snapped a 900 degrees (two and a half spins in the air) and secured the 96.93 grade and the title.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">"I'm too happy. It was a very stylish and high-level stage, in a new track that everyone will have the opportunity to use from now on, because it is public, which only values and enhances skateboarding even more. For sure, new names will emerge here and shine in the Vertical. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank my sponsors and coaches for this achievement," said Gui Khury, who defends the Vert Battle title as the defending champion.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Gui Khury began to become known in the skateboarding world precisely for his early achievements. In 2019, he set his first Guinness World Records record for being the youngest to participate in the biggest extreme sports event in the United States, the X-Games, at 10 years and 225 days old. The following year, new mark, the youngest skater to complete the maneuver 1080 degrees in the Vertical. And, in 2021, the youngest X-Games gold medalist in the men's category.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">On Sunday, a more experienced group even tried, battled, took high flights, reached extraordinary heights, pulled off spectacular maneuvers, but could not unseat Gui Khury. With a score of 93.00, <strong>Rony Gomes</strong>, world champion of Vertical in 2013 and creator of Vert Battle since 2016, took second place.<strong> Ítalo Penarrubia</strong>, on the last lap, set an 87.33 and completed the podium. Two-time world champion and international attraction of the event, Frenchman <strong>Edouard Damestoy </strong>finished seventh.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Lua Vicente </strong>and <strong>Pietro Nunes</strong> start in front in the other categories.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In the Women's Open category, who started in front in the Vertical season was Lua Vicente, a native of Santos (SP), one of the skaters of the Skate Park scene and stamped figure of the national circuit. Last year, she finished the Vert Battle in third place.
