STU NATIONAL opens Brazilian calendar of 2022 championships in Criciúma

If 2021 was an emblematic year for Skate, with the sport entering the Olympic Games and a debut with three silver medals for Brazil, the year 2022 is promising. A calendar full of competitions is already on the scene next week, with the first stage of the STU National, in Criciúma (SC). The event takes place between January 13th and 23rd, at Parque Municipal Prefeito Altair Guidi, one of the most modern places in the country for skateboarding.

Santa Catarina city will host the event from January 13 to 23. Several Olympic skaters, such as Rayssa Leal, are already confirmed.

The Criciúma stage opens the Brazilian Skateboard circuit and is worth the maximum score in the national ranking. The first week will be dedicated to Street and the second to Park, in both categories (female and male). And it will follow all the protocols in force in the city to hold a safe event. The STU National will have entrance control for the public, where the vaccination card will be required. Unimmunized people will not have access. The same procedure will be adopted with athletes and the press.

Several Olympic athletes are already confirmed, such as Rayssa Leal, Pedro Barros, Pâmela Rosa, Luizinho, Isadora Pacheco, Yndiara Asp, Dora Varella and Pedro Quintas. In addition to Lucas Rabelo, world runner-up in the Super Crown in Jacksonville, United States, and gold medal in the Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia. Not to mention promising talents, such as Kalani Konig, 14, from Santa Catarina, who is part of the Brazilian under-15 team, and Gui Khury, only 13 years old, the youngest skater, for example, to complete the 1,080 maneuver in vert.

“Our partnership with the STU has been very important for the realization of the Brazilian Park and Street Circuit in recent years. And maintaining the tradition of promoting high-level technical events, integrating the entire skateboarding lifestyle into competition. These two aspects are vital for CBSk, in this movement of structuring institutional skateboarding in Brazil. We also thank the city of Criciúma for once again opening this space to host the event that opens the season”, commented Eduardo Musa, president of the Brazilian Skate Confederation.

Sports tourism in Criciúma

Following the philosophy that it is not just skateboarding with the feet, but a lifestyle, Criciúma has invested heavily to attract visitors with a variety of parks and cultural spaces, promoting sports tourism. It was the city of Santa Catarina that also opened the 2021 season of Skate. The stage is made possible by the City Hall through the Municipal Sports Foundation of Criciúma. It is sponsored by Monster Energy and a partnership with New Era, and was conceived and realized by Rio de Negócios.

“These are investments that project Criciúma into the national tourism scenario and open doors for major events to be held here. We are pleased to once again host the STU National, with a structure prepared to receive athletes and visitors, and provide good experiences to those who come to honor them”, highlighted the mayor of Criciúma, Clésio Salvaro.

Skate, culture, tourism and drive the local economy. The creator of the STU platform, Diogo Castelão, celebrates the resumption of the national calendar, now fully in person:

“After a magical year, we have all worked very hard so that in 2022 skateboarding continues its upward trajectory and is increasingly consolidated throughout the country, for the creative, plural and inclusive movement that it represents. It will be two amazing weekends with full coverage and worldwide reach. Brazil will certainly continue to be a protagonist in world skateboarding for many years to come.”

The STU follows the proposal to invest in sport as a way of contributing to social changes. And, in this endeavor, it has a partnership with the BV bank, which presents the platform events:

The championship will be broadcast live on the official STU channels, on SporTV and on TV Globo's official Summer Spectacular schedule, with the finals of Street Feminino (16/01) and Park Masculino (23/01). But the public that wants to closely follow each maneuver can request its free ticket on the Sympla platform – just follow the disclosure of the dates on social networks.
