On a day that marked the 7th year of SLS’ presence in the Garden State, there was no better way to celebrate than with a win from the most successful pro in SLS history.
Huston stayed on top throughout the prelims and finals with very few falls, solid runs, clutch tricks. He scored an 8.1 on his first run and then topped that on his second with an 8.7 that put him in first place.
He came out swinging in the best trick section with a huge kick flip frontside board slide on the kinked rail. The judges gave him an 8.8, keeping him in first place. Huston’s best trick scores remained as consistent as they come, as all tour long he has led the pros with the highest average of 8.4. On his second try he put down a cab backside lipslide to fakie on the round stairset rail for an 8.7. This gave him a commanding four-point lead over Chris Joslin.
On his third attempt he joined the 9 club when he landed a kickflip back lipslide on the kinked rail. It was textbook – the pop, the catch, the slide and his landing. Already winning in points, he bailed on his fourth attempt but rallied for his fifth, joining the 9 club for a second time with a victory lap backside 360 nose blunt for a score of 9.4.
Congratulations to Nyjah Huston for taking his first win since the 2015 SLS Nike SB Pro Open, and Chris Joslin for securing his spot in the 2016 SLS Nike SB Super Crown World Championship!
