<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This inaugural and historic first-ever national boardrider’s league event Grand Final in Asia will see the top 4 ranked surfers from the rosters of the 15 Liga Surfing Indonesia clubs gather at Kuta Beach to compete for individual and team cash, prizes and trophies, with a total of 240 surfers who are eligible to join the competition in the following divisions: Under 10, Junior Boys, Open Women, Open Men, and Masters.<br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">The majority of the clubs are based within Bali, from such familiar places as Uluwatu, Kuta, Legian, Sanur and Canggu to name a few, but there are also member clubs from West Java, Sumbawa, and Lombok who will be participating in the LSI Final. At last count there were almost 1,000 members signed up within the 15 surf clubs, making a great start to the first year of the LSI.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">To earn their places in the Final, each club had a requirement to run 5 events, beginning in May of 2021, which would then determine the top 4 surfers in each division who would be eligible to compete in the Final. Due to COVID restrictions there were some delays along the way but finally all clubs achieved the goal and the Final could be scheduled.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">“It’s been a big challenge for us but we’re very excited to have these great clubs and these great sponsors that helped us make this LSI Grand Final possible,” said ASC’s Tipi Jabrik. “This surfing league that we have created is super important to the development of surfing here in Indonesia, and we are looking forward to sharing it with the Indonesian audience."</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">Chris Friend, the co-creator of the LiveHeats scoring and management system used by the clubs has been very supportive of the ASC and the PSOI’s efforts to create and launch the LSI. </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> “Club surfing is the fabric of surfing,” says Friend, so to see the club movement really take off within Indonesia is hugely exciting. We are stoked to be a part of it and look forward to supporting clubs to grow first in Indonesia and then all over the Asian region.”</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Indonesia’s first Olympian surfer Rio Waida grew up in the Legian Boardriders Club (previously called the Padma Boys), so he knows the value of the club system first hand. “I first joined the Padma Boys when I was just 10 years old, and I’m 22 now,” said Waida. “In the beginning it was just hanging out at the beach learning to surf, then it was about learning to compete in club and other grom events, all the way until now where I’m competing in ISA events and the Olympics, QS and Challenger events, and soon on the WSL Championship Tour I hope. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Being in a club like the Legian Boardriders is having a special family, one that is all about surfing and supporting each other, having fun but being serious also, learning from those more experienced and then passing your experience to those that are just learning. It’s so great to be part of this, and I’m really looking forward to all of the clubs getting together at Kuta Beach soon for the LSI Grand Final.”</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>Follow the LSI on our website at <a href="https://asiansurf.co/lsi/" target="_blank">https://asiansurf.co/lsi/</a> on Instagram at <a href="https://www.instagram.com/ligasurfingindonesia" target="_blank">@ligasurfingindonesia</a></strong></em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The Liga Surfing Indonesia is sanctioned by the PSOI (Persatuan Selancar Ombak Indonesia), operated by the ASC (Asian Surf Cooperative), sponsored by Vans Indonesia, East Ventures, Bintang, Mamaka and Earth Island, support for LiveHeats from Billabong, Quiksilver, and Rip Curl, and supported by the Indonesian Tourism Ministry (Kemenpar), Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemempora), National Sports Committee of Indonesia(KONI), and the Indonesia Olympic Committee (KOI)</strong></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Media Support by:</strong> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Australian Surf Business: https://www.instagram.com/asbmag/</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Baliwaves: https://www.instagram.com/baliwaves</div><div style="text-align: justify;">BaliBelly https://instagram.com/balibelly</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Surfing Indonesia https://instagram.com/surfingindonesia_org</div><div style="text-align: justify;">SurfTime Magazine https://instagram.com/surftime_magazine</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>About the Liga Surfing Indonesia</strong></em></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><em>The focus of the LSI is on providing Indonesia’s current and future boardriders clubs with the opportunity to be part of a system that will result in them playing a key role in the development of surfing talent, growing the surf industry, and growing surfing tourism in Indonesia.
