<div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">Stop No. 2 of 4 on the 2021 World Surf League (WSL) European Junior Qualifying Series (JQS), the GADIS Junior Pro Ferrol has been treated to fun two-to-three foot surf, culminating today with Amatriain and Etxabarri’s victories.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> With a drop in swell predicted for the rest of the weekend, organisers decided on a four-man format for the Final to complete the competition in the best waves possible.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><strong><br /></strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The Basque Country's Triple Threat</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">The 17-year-old Basque surfer from Zarautz, Adur Amatriain, cemented himself as one of the rising stars in Europe with his third win in a row. Amatriain was clearly still tasting the victory from his massive win at the ABANCA Pantin Classic Galicia Pro, and this motivation carried him through four straight heat wins to reach the Finals in Ferrol.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> Amatriain got to work immediately, opening with a 6.67 and backing it up with an excellent 8.50 for a total of 15.17. With the rest of the field in a combination situation, Amatriain was leading the heat from start to finish.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Joaquim Chaves (PRT) was the only surfer who could get close to Amatriain, but still required an excellent wave to get into the lead. Chaves kept on fighting right until the end, finishing runner-up with a total of 13.07.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"> Despite an incredible build-up throughout the event, Sam Piter’s (FRA) luck ran out in the Final. After annihilating his opponents in the earlier rounds, Piter tried everything but couldn’t get out of the combination situation.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">Kytann Foret (FRA) improved in every round leading up to the Final, but could only manage two low-range scores in the end and bowed out in fourth place. </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Buzzer-beating performances in Women's Final</strong> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">In the women’s Final, Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri (EUK) looked like the one to beat from the start, winning all her heats leading up to the Final. Not even competing against her sister, Annette Gonzalez Etxabarri (EUK) in the Quarterfinals could throw her off her game. She stayed busy throughout the Final and kept improving her scores, locking in a total of 12.06.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Francisca Veselko (PRT) put on an impressive performance throughout the event, scoring the only excellent heat in the Women’s competition in the Round of 32. Veselko was playing catch-up for most of the Final, but she stayed patient and surprised everyone with a buzzer-beater to snatch the runner-up finish from Lucia Machado (CNY), who was hanging on to second place.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> Machado continued her strong form, securing another Final berth after her recent win at the E.Leclerc Pont L'Abbé Junior Pro La Torche, but in the end she couldn't find waves with more scoring potential. It was the second time Machado met Etxabarri in a final. Their previous match-up was at the 2020 Junior Pro Espinho, where the Basque surfer also triumphed over Machado.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">Hina-Maria Conradi (FRA) had a great weekend in Ferrol, earning a career-best result with her first Final appearance on the Junior Tour. Conradi burst from the gates in the Final to put her competitors on the back foot, but experience paid off in the end for Etxabarri and Veselko. </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>European Junior Rankings Shake-Up</strong> </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">Two down, two to go and Adur Amatriain (EUK) is confidently leading the Eurpean Junior Title race, while Lucia Machado (CNY) and Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri are now tied in first place. Etxabarri will get a massive confidence boost from this result going into the Junior Pro Espinho, where she is the defending winner. </div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">With the completion of the GADIS Junior Pro Ferrol, the European rankings have once again been re-shuffled, here is the new current Top 5:</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>European Men’s JQS Top 5:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 1 - Adur Amatriain (EUK)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 2 - Kai Odriozola (ESP)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 3 - Joaquim Chaves (PRT)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 3 - Sam Piter (FRA)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 5 - Luan Nogues (FRA)</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>European Women’s JQS Top 5:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 1 - Lucia Machado (CNY)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 1 - Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri (EUK)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 3 - Francisca Veselko (PRT)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 4 - Gabriela Dinis (PRT)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 5 - Hina-Maria Conradi (FRA)</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div> <div style="text-align: justify;">The European Junior Qualifying Series will now take surfers to Espinho, Portugal from September 20-24, 2021.</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GADIS JUNIOR PRO FERROL MEN’S FINAL RESULT:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 1 – Adur Amatriain (EUK) 15.17</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 2 – Joaquim Chaves (PRT) 13.07</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 3 – Sam Piter (FRA) 8.26</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 4 – Kytann Foret (FRA) 6.50</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GADIS JUNIOR PRO FERROL WOMEN’S FINAL RESULT:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 1 – Janire Gonzalez Extabarri (EUK) 12.06</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 2 – Francisca Veselko (PRT) 9.87</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 3 – Lucia Machado (CNY) 9.20</div><div style="text-align: justify;"> 4 – Hina-Maria Conradi (FRA) 9.13</div> <div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>GADIS JUNIOR PRO FERROL MEN’S SEMIFINAL RESULT:</strong></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> SF 1: Adur Amatriain (EUK) 10.04; Kytann Foret (FRA) 9.30 def.
