Things got rolling immediately with 2016 SLS Champion Shane O’Neill skating in the first heat. He put on quite a show with solid runs and technical tricks in the Best Trick section which landed him in the top spot at the end of the initial heat. Dashwan Jordan also showed and proved in heat 1. He dropped a 360 flip 5-0 down the big hubba that earned the only 9-Club score of the prelims.

In Heat 2, Sean Malto reminded us that he’s a former SLS Champion with some amazing tricks including a perfect backside noseblunt down the hubba. At the end of the heat, Sean had tied Shane’s score for 1st.

Heat 3 was all about Tommy Fynn. Tommy was hungry for a win or high points to make it to the Super Crown. He showed speed, style and consistency throughout his runs while earning big scores. He also managed to come through in the clutch with a 360 flip and backside flip off the top of the big hubba. This pushed Tommy up into 1st place.

All eyes were on Nyjah Huston as the contest progressed into Heat 4. Nyjah won the Barcelona and Munich stops, and clearly had his sights set on Chicago for a three-peat. Huston scored big in the Run section and followed that up with his signature tricks in the Best Trick. By the end of it all, he had jumped ahead of Fynn and into 1st place.

The pressure was on in Heat 5, and Torey Pudwill rose to the occasion. He threw down an onslaught of tricks including noseslide to backside lipslide on the middle wedge ledge and a Backside 360 off the big hubba. His performance earned him a spot in the Chicago final.

At the end of one of the best prelims in recent SLS history, Nyjah Huston, Tommy Fynn, Torey Pudwill, Shane O’Neill, Tiago Lemos, Sean Malto, Ishod Wair, and Dashawn Jordan would be advancing.

The Chicago Final was a true cliffhanger and definitely one for the books! Things got heated in the run section with each of the skaters rifling off hammers. Nyjah shined by packing tricks into his run with a couple of buzzer beaters. This landed Huston on top heading into the Best Trick section.

Per usual, it all boiled down to who brought out the biggest guns. Shane O’Neill threw down a flawless nollie back heel off the hubba for a 9.2. Torey Pudwill handled a lipslide across the top and down the hubba for 9.2. And Nyjah Huston switch frontside flipped off the top of the hubba for a 9.0 after taking a vicious slam on his previous attempt. Cleraly, these SLS veterans were going all out.

But it was the rookie, Dashawn Jordan, who stole the show. He handled a laser flip off the top of the hubba for a whopping 9.4—which was the highest score of the contest—as well as 360 flip 50-50 down it. Nyjah’s slam left him cramped up on his final attempt so Dashawn ended the day with the highest score giving him his first SLS win and a spot at this year’s Super Crown World Championship in Los Angeles. Dashawn’s journey has been amazing. From winning the 2016 Tampa Am which qualified him to skate in the 2017 Pro Open where he made it onto the SLS World Tour as an ofifical SLS Pro, to winning his first event as a rookie and advancing to the Super Crown World Championship. Dreams truly do come true. Congratulations, Dashawn!

View the final results below:
1. Dashawn Jordan – 33.8
2.
