If you’re thinking of finding an instructor, you can watch this sample surf lesson being given to the girls from Monster. :D
So, chances are you’re already 100% hooked because you’ve had lessons, totally loved it and caught the bug baaaaaad... But, if not, we recommend finding an instructor to help you get the basics down at least. They’ll share some treasure about getting your balance, reading waves and dealing with rip tides… and that sort of stuff will help you forever. You can search for surf schools or individual tutors through the database… and if you know of one we’ve not listed yet, give us a shout so we can let others know about them!
If you’ve reached the stage where you’re still very much a grom, but have done away with the lessons, then listen up! When you hit the surf consider choosing a quieter spot away from the masses. Yeah, so the waves might not be quite as good… but it’ll put less pressure on you and free up some space for those dudes in the line-up who can catch and actually fully ride a wave. Seems like a good trade-off – less gnarly waves, but no waiting/fighting… and this should be kept hush-hush but the more waves you can catch the better you’ll get! So that’ll be you in no time… if you give it time. ?
You can teach yourself better the more waves you get!
