Take care of your board and it’ll live forever!!! Ha. Not true… Everyone knows if you’re seriously into this, you’ll get through a ton of boards… but you might be able to keep it alive that little bit longer if you keep it in good check.
Board maintenance is mainly about keeping the best riding experience possible… and avoiding equipment failure causing needless slams. To help make things easy there are various maintenance kits out there such as those by Venom and Bones Swiss Bearings. These include things like bearing cleaner, lube, a skate tool, bearings etc. Depends which you pick, but when you’re starting out it’s pretty handy to get everything all together.
It’s uber important to make sure your wheels are running smoothly. To ensure this, you’ll wanna keep your bearings clean and replace when necessary. Here’s how.
You’ll also wanna regularly check that your bolts haven’t come too loose... and if you ever find your bolts stripped and stubbornly stuck then this clip tells all.
Then there’s a trick you can use to prolong the life of your wheels. When there’s visible wear, mount them in the opposite position, diagonally across from where they came. Keeps them worn evenly. Not everyone agrees with this though… so see if it works for you. However, if you get a flat spot it’s definitely time to change them up and pick out some new ones. Neon glow for your next set?!
Now, sandpaper! Occasional sanding is recommended to keep your board edges smooth. Sure, wear ‘n’ tear is part of the skate life, and a well-worn board shows your dedication and skate history… but check out this dude who maybe let things go too far!?
Other extras connected to board care include products like Grip Gum. This stuff cleans off dust and dirt with the idea of keeping the best possible grip. Check it out and see a demo here
If you wanna change your grip tape for fresh, then it’s actually a lot easier to do than you might imagine. Watch how to do it here:
Chipped your nose or tail? It’s a good idea to make a repair to minimise the chance of this cracking further later on. Watch the following clip for some good guidance.
Lastly, if it’s properly busted in half (hopefully from some epic trick attempt!) make a mini board instead… It’ll give you hours more Boardriding fun. :-) Whoop!
